We built the concept around a golden brushstroke, symbolising the player's creativity and ambition. Sweeping from scene to scene, it paints borders, redraws maps, and reshapes history.
This overarching concept connects all three trailers: Announcement, Pre-Order, and Release.
The campaign arc

ANNOUNCE TRAILER
ONE GOLDEN BRUSH STROKE.
For the announcement trailer, we took the game's idea of map painting literally. The painter and a golden brushstroke connect scenes across centuries, turning the world into a canvas. That idea became the starting point for the wider campaign.

Pre-purchase trailer
The world opens up.
For pre-purchase, we brought the campaign closer to the game, creating the feel of an opening title sequence, with the golden brushstroke connecting history across centuries.
The gold of the announcement returns alongside in-game footage, travelling from Orléans to Beijing, and from Timbuktu to Tenochtitlan. Five centuries of history, and a whole world to shape.

Gameplay trailer
Ambition in play.
The gameplay trailer had to explain how Europa Universalis V works.
We built a story around the decisions, challenges and stakes players face during a campaign. Titles guided viewers through the gameplay and gave new players context.

Motion & title design
Motion & title design
Each film had a different purpose, but the typography, title treatments, transitions and end cards made them part of the same campaign.
Craft breakdown
Behind the scenes
A glimpse into the work behind the films. Historical references guided how we modelled the objects and built their materials, keeping their shapes and details true to the period.

Script & narrative
A few hundred years to work with.
Europa Universalis doesn't exactly do small timelines. Scripts, storyboards and animatics helped us turn centuries of change into one continuous journey. The painter and brush gave us a thread to follow as locations, periods and events shifted around them. Before production started, we knew where history was taking us.

Beyond the films
From trailers to launch
The campaign’s visual language extended across events, digital platforms and launch materials, with the golden brushstroke, graphics and CGI connecting the work.
